Hey Scott,
Glad you like them! I would suggest looking at Etsy or Kittl, or having AI generate some for you.
Hope that helps!

Just started the course and I am working on the state outline. When I open state outline it is supposed to be 12 inches by 12 inches. When mine is opened it is 4×4 inches. i downloaded as instructed and opened in Vcarve 12.5. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I think the different states are different sizes. My state of Wisconsin was also 4×4. You can still use a 12×12 piece of wood but don’t need to since your state is smaller than the classes example. Just set the material dimensions based on the size of your wood you choose to use knowing that the state is going to take up 4×4 of it.

Hi Gerald,
Catching up on messages.
Glad you got this sorted out!
And @Kurt, thanks for jumping in and helping Gerald before we got to it. We really appreciate members sharing what they’ve run into and helping each other along the way.
Gerald, sounds like you’re good to keep moving forward with the project.
Try that out and let us know how it goes, happy to help if anything comes up.

When running the projuct i am having to zero the x y and z on the back left of the work piece or else it dosent carv anything.
also when running the troop tray, it seems that it is mirrored to what it should be. the stars cut on the bottum left in sted of the upper left. the strips are on the top in sted the bottum.
not sure what is going on.
I am running a fox alien ultra 8080

Hi Joel,
Thanks for reaching out. I can see why this is confusing.
For the Troop Tray project, the file is set up with the XY zero/datum at the lower-left corner of the material and the Z zero at the top of the material. You should not need to move the XY zero to the back-left for the project to cut correctly.
Before exporting the job, open the project and confirm those zero positions, then run the toolpath simulation to make sure the movement and orientation look correct. If you’ve made any adjustments for your machine, recalculate the toolpaths and export them using the correct post-processor for your controller.
Since you’re running a FoxAlien Ultra 8080, the fact that the job only cuts when you zero from a different corner and then comes out mirrored sounds like it may be related to how the machine/controller is interpreting the X and Y directions or the exported file. That part is machine-specific, so the best next step is to reach out to FoxAlien support. They’ll be able to confirm the correct machine orientation, controller setup, and post-processor for the Ultra 8080. Our CNC Kickstart guidance recommends going directly to the manufacturer for machine-specific setup or operation issues like this.
The main thing to keep in mind on our side is: Troop Tray = lower-left XY zero and top-of-material Z zero.
Give that a shot and let us know how it goes, we’ll help you dial it in.
Best,

one the fun money project vault files, the nutcracker did not have the v-carve file .crv it had others. I would like to have this file so I can see the toolpathes you have. thanks Ron

I’ve worked my way through the Kick Start Program and have found it both informative and fun. However, I’ve struggled with getting the project file for the reptile relief to work properly. None of the files appear to be compressed. I’ve been able to open the .crv file in VCarve Pro 12.509 but only see an edge profile toolpath. I’ve saved the crv3d file and attempted to open it through my VCarve Pro 12.509 and the software doesn’t even recognize the file. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the Kick Start Program!
For the Reptile Relief project, the course workflow is to download the project as a zipped file, extract the folder, and then open the extracted project file in Vectric. The project is designed for Vectric VCarve or above and should include both a roughing toolpath using a 1/4″ endmill and a finishing toolpath using a 1/8″ ball nose bit.
Since you’re only seeing an edge profile in the .crv file, I’d first go back to the Reptile Relief lesson and download the project file again. Make sure you’re opening the extracted project file from that download rather than one of the other files in the folder.
As for VCarve Pro not recognizing the .crv3d file, that part is specific to how Vectric handles that file type and software version. Vectric Support will be the best resource for confirming whether that file can be opened directly in VCarve Pro 12.509 and what the correct import process is.
The important thing is that the finished Reptile Relief setup should give you separate roughing and finishing toolpaths before you export the G-code.

- I have Your VCarve Pro version 12.510
- I am only seeing the profile tool path
- I am trying to create the crocodile in the lesson
- I expected to see all of the toolpaths.
- Am I missing something?
- I tried to post a picture of my screen but it will not let me paste it.

Hey Kevin,
First, double-check that you downloaded and extracted the Crocodile project file from the lesson and that you opened that extracted project file in VCarve Pro. Then compare the toolpaths shown in VCarve with the roughing and finishing toolpaths demonstrated in the lesson.
If the correct Crocodile project file is open and VCarve Pro 12.510 is still only showing a profile toolpath, that becomes a software-specific issue. In that case, I’d recommend reaching out to Vectric’s support team so they can check how your version is reading the project file.
Hope that helps!
