I use VCarve Desktop 12.510 and downloaded the CRV3d. VCarve desktop does not open or see the file type. I have not had this issue with any of the other files. Any suggestions?

    Hey Mark,

Here are a few things to check:

    • Make sure the file was fully extracted from the ZIP folder before opening it.
    • Verify that the file you’re trying to open is actually the .crv3d file and not still inside the compressed folder.
    • Confirm you’re opening it from within VCarve rather than double-clicking the file in Windows.
    • Check that your VCarve installation is up to date.

One thing that stands out is that .crv3d files are 3D project files. If VCarve Desktop 12.510 doesn’t recognize the file type at all, it may be worth contacting Vectric Support, as this falls into a software-specific issue. They can confirm whether there are any version restrictions or licensing limitations affecting .crv3d files.

    Hope that helps,

    Miranda

Miranda, can you double check the file in the course? (The M7-Crocidile .crv3d) I am not sure its a zip file, or if its working. Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem. I downloaded file from course to my computer, I tried opening from Vcarve Desktop, but can’t find it. If its a zip file, how do I “unzip”? Thanks!

On most computers, download the ZIP file first. Then right-click the zipped folder and choose “Extract All” or “Unzip.” Once it extracts, open the new unzipped folder and use the project file inside.

I understand. This is not showing as a Zip file though. This is our problem.

Unfortunately, the only way to get this file to load is to have a subscription to Aspire. This was the message from Vcarve Desktop when I tried (Multiple times) to open it. 🙁

Unfortunately that is not the way it is presented.

I have VCarve Pro and it will not open the CRV3D file. I had to open the .crv and import the STL to get it into VCarve. From there, I was able to create the tool paths per the video.

According to VCarve it would be quicker overall to use a 1/4″ ball nose and 1/8 ball nose for the 3D finishing. Are there any problems with doing this ?

    • Very much a newbie. Trying to follow the instructions for the make your state through freecad! Can’t find anything . Attached a screenshot here and you will notice the dimensions in the lower left but I didn’t put them in . Don’t know how they showed up struggling to find how to put material dimensions in. Accidentally found it yesterday now can’t . Next I’ll ask about the tool path , trying to screen shot what Andy had in place with the file when I put in the free version of carbide create . All help appreciated. Feel like I might be here a lot. Ok so can’t even post a screenshot! Maybe it’s a phone thing but there’s no option for a photo and I can’t copy and paste it . About to throw something

    Hey Michael,

Since locating those settings is specific to the software, the best place for help with the menus and interface is the official support team for the software you’re using. Different versions can place the controls in different locations.

Just checking back in to see how you’re doing with this. Were you able to get past the FreeCAD issue and move on to the toolpaths in Carbide Create?

If you’re still stuck anywhere, let us know where you’re at and we’ll help you work through it.
